K.L.V / EXPO 2025 OSAKA, KANSAI, Japan "Kansai Pavilion" Shiga
# Exhibition
An innovative light installation that combines a new approach to immersive spatial
design with advanced motion technology. K.L.V (Kinetic Light Vision) features 450
glowing spheres suspended in midair, synchronized with immersive video projections
that showcase the landscapes and cultural beauty of Shiga. The system was
conceptualized, developed, and produced for the Kansai Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka-
Kansai.
The scenes shift dynamically to reflect the seasonal beauty of Japan—cherry blossoms,
fireflies, fireworks, and autumn foliage—portraying the ever-changing landscapes of
Shiga. These vivid visuals are brought to life through a fusion of delicately
choreographed sphere motion, light, mirrors, and curved-surface projections, creating a
deeply immersive experience.
The K.L.V system precisely controls the vertical movement of each acrylic sphere,
suspended by ultra-fine wires and maneuvered by high-precision stepper motors.
Vertically projected beams from highly directional full-color LED spotlights illuminate
the spheres from below, transforming them into radiant, floating particles of light.
Immersive visuals projected onto curved and mirrored screens recreate the landscapes
surrounding Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake, within the exhibition space. The region’s
vivid colors and natural rhythms are synchronized with the hues and movements of the floating spheres, leaving a lasting impression on visitors of all ages and nationalities. Like a motion pictogram unfolding in space, the installation is designed to provide a clear, nonverbal, and intuitive experience.
