Lights in Snowland

“Snow Dance”
Upon entering the gallery, the viewer is greeted by a flurry of lights capturing the image of snow endlessly falling in the winterscape of Niigata.

“Light Book – Hokuetsu Seppu –”
Hokuetsu Seppu, meaning A Record of a Land of Snow, is a late Edo-period book vividly describing daily life in the snowy province of Echigo-Uonuma.
By turning over the pages, the viewer releases pictures and characters portraying life of bygone times to arise and float enchantingly in space.

These two works inspired by the winter and deep snows of Echigo province were exhibited in the Lights in Snowland exhibition at the Echigo-Tsumari Satoyama Museum of Contemporary Art KINARE.
